I recently heard a podcast by Ivan Misner called “When what’s in the way becomes the way.” That is my sensitivity. Going from a child who was told repeatedly that I was too sensitive and there was something wrong with me to an adult who helps families and schools raise, support, and nourish highly sensitive children and their parents as my area of expertise, my sensitivity became “THE WAY”.
I am ever grateful that my friend and colleague, Dr. Elaine Aron, pulled me aside one day and told me I was highly sensitive. I didn’t know my friend Elaine was the literal author of the term highly sensitive person, and famous on top of that!
As a deep thinker, I found my way through adulthood, motherhood, and professional life and managed to flourish where many HSPs don’t. But one of the things HSPs need to flourish is to know they have this trait and to understand what that means. That was the missing piece for me until Elaine Aron came into my life and changed it forever.
